Vroom!
Here's some shaky, sometimes blurry video of some vintage cars making lots of noise. (Still getting use to the oddities of using a dSLR for video... and blanked on bringing a tripod...)
Autofocus in live view sucks pretty bad. Something like one of these is great for manually setting focus outdoors in bright light. If I'm going to zoom, I tend to zoom all the way in and find my focus, then leave it and zoom out. While you'd notice the difference when taking a photo if you focused like that, for video it usually works quite well. I kind of go all out when I'm doing the cheapskate DSLR video thing though...
I've noticed the 55-200vr likes to change focal planes when you change the zoom, but I didn't get it for video work, so I'll live. Thankfully for any future serious video work (mostly reviews) I think my 35mm primary will work great. I honestly forgot my new camera can even do video until we were at the track for a couple hours anyway, slow learning curve I guess!

That little hood thing looks like a good idea though, could probably rig something up for less than that price too.
ReplyDeleteMine isn't the one I linked to, I think I paid $40 or less on eBay.
