Fun times. Went out to the range with Dan and another coworker yesterday to try out the micro-pistol and Dan's new toy. It was good, aside from the sore everything.
Dan picked up a Saiga-12 (he may or may not be in the middle of reading the Monster Hunter series...)
It'll be getting a new stock sooner than later. In the meantime, not quite my cup of tea but it still a bit of fun, and quite giggle inducing.
Dan also brought out the S&W .44mag (I'm wondering about his fascination with self punishment...)
And, on the opposite end of the spectrum, the tiny little thing pretending to be a pistol worked too. Surprisingly accurate, despite its lack of sights (one of the few times I'm probably going to put a laser on something.)
I did come to the conclusion that with my hands, the tiny bit of concealability I loose is a worthwhile trade-off for the controlability of the finger rest extension.

Right Around the Corner!
Time seems to have been flying at an increased velocity lately, and Jay G's post just made me realize that B.A.G. Day is coming up awful fast. I think I might have to run out to the fun store next week and start thinking of things. The Kel-tec PF-9 seems tempting for some reason...

Late to the party.
So I did hear about the decision just as it was released, but then I had to get in a Humvee, and they are lacking in that type of radio equipment, so everybody else has had a chance to look over things and muss and rejoice(?!) and cry into their ties. Or if you're the VPC, just say the same stupid thing a little louder because if you say it enough, it will turn true, even if completely retarded.
Uncle does bring up a good question, "what now?" I would love to see an attack at all the crappy NFA rules, but I'm sure that'll be a ways off, despite how awesome and right it would be. General consensus over there is a run at the various gun registries, and that does make sense and flows and everything. It looks like Mr. Gura already has started going after Cali, which is good. Also registration fees (comment 15) seem like a good one. I would still love to see a loosening (ok, erasure) of NFA restrictions in the near future... 11" suppressed AR sounds like a fun build...
Apparently the Brady Bunches Wikipedia entry had some brief hilarity. Thankfully a screen capture has been preserved at Sharp as a Marble. Praise his noodly appendages for keeping me from taking that sip of coffee before I embiggened. (Also, as a cartographer, I will mention that the map on said Wiki page uses a color scheme that is the opposite of what I'd expect from their point. You'd think they'd want the least restrictive states red...)
That's really all I've got for now, going to skim the actual decision when I'm bored and having trouble sleeping, and still need a bit of time for things to sink in and settle.

Patches
That are quite relevant to the blog. 3.5 inch ones too. I really wish I had come up with the idea a year ago when I was hashing this thing together...
Oh well. I'll probably end up ordering a couple at least, $2 of each patch goes to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.

I would like to take a minute...
To thank the Brady Campaign for increasing my site traffic the last day or so. There's been a lot more referrals from Google searches for "Guns and Coffee" than ever, so hopefully some of those people will come back.
Posting has been/will be a little light, school's back in full swing for the semester, and most non-geography people are less than interested in GIS and whatnot.
That and one of my friends pointed me to Fallout 3, and it's been sucking up a lot of my free time. A lot of my free time...

Update on Starbucks
Apparently Starbucks is less than impressed by the Brady Campaign.
I may need to rethink my opinion on Starbucks.
Also, I just noticed the version of the Starbucks logo the Bradys used... I just may need to steal that...

(H/T to ENDO)

This story is relevant to my blogs...
Although I'm not a huge fan of Starbucks for the most part. (They tend to be out of my way, and the coffee's nothing special.)
But apparently the Brady Campaign is so hard up for stuff to do, that they're trying to petition Starbucks to ban open carry in their coffee shops. If they some how manage to pull this off (hah), then Caleb needs to start offering classes to die-hard Starbucks fans.
Unfortunately my preferred off campus coffee establishment is within a magical 1000ft. bubble of a middle school, so I can't carry there, despite the fun that it could be (it's a rather hippy-ish place, see prior posts). I could start making a pit stop at the Starbucks over by Walmart when I go shopping though.
Sometimes I wish the Brady Campaign would just curl up and die, but every so often they make me laugh...

Grumble grumble change...
Well, ordered a CZ-82, will ship second day air, when they finally get to processing it over at Aim, in about 2 weeks. Last time I got a pistol from them I had it in my hands within 48 hours. Not Aim's fault really, it's an industry-wide problem.
