Math Homework

Not going as fast as hoped. Simon is no help.

Apparently the Blogger App for Android doesn't upload the full size photo... grumblecakes.

Guess I'm Old...

The number of college kids sitting in the basement coffee house in our equivalent of a student union that are enjoying a beer at 1300 is simply mind boggling.  I know it's the season opener for the NFL, and it is Packers territory, but it's not unique to today.

I know it's slightly hypocritical of me, as I do enjoy a fine dark beer, but I think the cup of black coffee I have will be a better aid in my math class in a half hour than any lager has any hopes of...

School!!

Was out of town most of Monday, and working overnight, followed by the first day of my (hopefully) last semester of college.  Most of the sleep this week looks to be coming in about two hour chunks... should be fun.

School...

Took a semester off, registering for classes today (they start Tuesday... hopefully there's some left...)  Follow that up with work, probably not gonna be here much today.

7 out of 10 Students Skip Buying Texts Due to Costs

I read stories like this and I'm very glad that the school I'm going back to in a couple weeks has a text rental program.  I think the most I've ever dropped on books in one semester was about $120, which is apparently the cost of just one "normal" text book, and the worst of which was a self published professor who infamously changed it every semester, and charged $80 for something that looked like it came from the copy center at Staples.

CCW and UW Campuses

John Lott talks about how the UW System is going to have to deal with the new CCW laws.

The way I understood it, it would be up to each campus to decide how to deal with CCW in the buildings, however they cannot stop you from carrying on the campus grounds.  It looks that he's reading it the same as well.

I'm hoping that my school will choose to go the simple route and allow it.  I'm sure the College Dems will cry to no end, but it would be the simplest and cheapest solution.  I'll certainly let you guys know as soon as I know what our policy will be for CCW.

Lulz at the Drunks

When the cop asks if you have any beer in your backpack, it's key to remember the mesh water bottle pocket does a poor job of hiding a Miller Light can.

Time of year

It's finals season and I woke up with a splitting headache and an old Army injury demanding I earn this month's disability check, so forgive me if there's not much happening around here the next week or so.  I do have some gear reviews on the horizon, some great products I'm excited to get the word out about.  In the mean time, real life has to butt it's ugly head in.

1,000lb Max Capacity Camel

So ease up on that straw.

Blegh.  It's nearing the end of the semester, so there's that, but a goodly amount of other little annoyances have decided this is the week to stack up.  Midway shipped a 12ga mag extension, which doesn't fit the new shotty for some reason, and the Galco holster I thought I'd try out does not work with M&Ps with the thumb safety, so I was looking forward to the post office at this time of year.  Add a handful of other recent issues with various parcel services and I'm starting to wonder if I shouldn't just hand deliver everything.  Less stress and I'd get to see the country!

Unfortunately I got off to a late and extra grouchy start as the little Chevy did it's party trick of draining the battery as it sat overnight.  It likes to do this on average about once a month, regardless of anything being left plugged in.  The battery's less than a year old too.

No big deal, just pop the hood and jump it, and it's fine for another month.  Except winter is upon us, and apparently neither car at the house will have a working hood release until April when the cable thaws out.  Nothing like crawling under a car in the snow and gravel to wedge your hand between the radiator and hood support to trip the latch when you're already grumpy.

There's a handful of other things, but it's not worth dwelling on.  I just felt the need to vent a little.  I'm going to sit down and read a book and sip on some coffee before choir and then play games the rest of the day.

Grumblecakes

At some point this weekend the facebook page picked up a couple more "fans," or "likes," or whatever it is this week.  Not a giant crowd like some of the others, but the small victories can be fun.

I hate being away from home during a daylight savings switch.  It never fails that I'll forget to reset my alarm clock, and thankfully this time it meant I was in my car and halfway to school an hour early, not cursing for sleeping through my first class again.  So I diverted my trajectory to the coffee shop and pulled out the netbook, and got a cup of delicious Mexican Chiapas so fresh that I don't know if it will cool down fast enough to drink before I have to actually get to class.

That's about it really, but I thought somebody would get a little laugh at me.

Just so you know...

Been meaning to write some stuff, but school, work, and more school has been getting in the way, especially with being that time of year when I'm trying to squeeze in every last minute of riding before the white stuff hits.  Rest assured that I fully intend to talk about white lights on defensive guns in the very near future (meant to get to it all summer...)

Back to the Bree Creek Quadrangle Stratigraphic Column... due tomorrow morning, wish me luck.

Ugh

"Hey, so I know you've got a concert Saturday for Choral Union, but I totally think you should get another head cold.  I mean that one a couple weeks ago wasn't too bad, even if you were doing Army crap."

"Screw you body.  Screw you."

Thank His noodly appendages for Theraflu.  Hopefully I'll be able to breath through my nose Saturday. (And yes, I sing baritone in the large vocal ensemble at school.)

Busy busy busy

Been a little scarce around here as of late (at least I feel like it...)  My little sister got married this past weekend, and I was pretty much at work when I wasn't at the wedding.  Top that off with my car blowing a cooling line Friday, leaving me car-less for all of it. (It's fixed now, fingers crossed...)

On the upside, my math professor's got something going on tomorrow, so I get to sleep in for the first time in two months.  It's amazing how happy that makes me.  Plus I picked up a couple hundred rounds of 9mm, so we'll see how the M&P9 works out soon.

Another plus, I totally rocked these shoes at the reception.  Wore them for my other sister's wedding too.
