A Matter of Months

Gov. Scott Walker said this week he expects a concealed carry bill to emerge as early as spring — after the Legislature tackles more pressing issues like job growth and the budget — and that he will sign it.
It's already passed twice, and former Gov. Doyle vetoed it both times.  Gov. Walker is adamant that he will sign whatever legislation is placed on his desk.  The main question is not if, but rather what that legislation will be.

Personally, I'm pretty torn.  Constitutional Carry is obviously the more "right" option, as it will not create more unnecessary bureaucracy or continue to limit the ability to carry through the added individual financial burden.  On the other hand, a permitting system could lead to a permit that is honored in other states (Michigan and Minnesota come to mind pretty quickly.)

If you want to carry in other states, you could get an out-of-state permit with reciprocity in that state.

How about Arizona's law? They still offer permits - you need one to carry in a bar or restaurant, or for reciprocity.

I am in favor of a law that allows reciprocity with the least restrictions on the citizen. There should be no restrictions at all on carry within Wisconsin.

I didn't know AZ still had permits going. That would be a great route I think.

I hold a Michigan permit. The training and costs suck big time, around ~$210 for the permit ($105) and training($75-175). The upside is that it is honored in 40 states because of the strict requirements. The non-honorees are HI, OR, CA, NY, NJ, MA, MD, CT, RI, ME, DC, WI and IL. That's most of the country since the New England states are so small.

Constitutional carry with the option of a permit for out of state carry would be the best solution.

Does Michigan have permits for out-of-state residents? I do tend to vacation in the UP.

Fred. You have to have a resident permit from the state you are from to even posses a pistol in Michigan. So if you are from WI and get a Florida or Utah non resident permit it will not be honored in Michigan. A Florida resident with a Florida permit would be ok.

You even need some sort of permit from your home state just to posses the pistol, even in the back of your car, locked, unloaded.

We have some stupid laws. Mostly because of the idiots in Detroit.
