Charter Arms Rimless Revolver

Is actually a real thing, and actually for sale, and TFB has a review.  The .40S&W chambering itself doesn't really excite me, but the idea of a revolver firing rimless cartridges without using moon clips is pretty cool.  Hopefully they'll do one in 9mm or .45acp before too long.

Ruger Blackhawk convertibles have had cylinders for 9mm and .45acp for years, but it is nice to see them in a defensive DA revolver. Presumably this is driven by a desire for common ammunition and for use as a BUG.
Once you get past the scary idea that the cartridges seat on the narrow little casemouth instead of a big fat rim, it works great.

S&W offered the M547, a K-frame in 9x19mm. It had little retractable fingers to grip the grooves in the cases. I've actually seen a couple, at shops and shows.

Charter Arms eventual goal was to come out with hand guns suited for 9mm and many others. The fact that the .40S&W is on sale is good. Keep in mind, Charter Arms is selling all the hand guns they can make. So the hand guns that can handle the rimless rounds may take time to come to market.
