What I've Said for Years

"Get a 9mm. Civilians are not limited by the Geneva Conventions and can carry hollowpoints.  A 9mm hollowpoint is devastating.  Plus 9mm is cheaper and you can practice more."

I generally don't get too deep into the caliber wars, but that's pretty much how I've explained my feelings for the better part of a decade now.

He said that while I while I was standing there with my holstered Springfield XD .45ACP Compact that I have spent a further $500 on trigger, sights, a bit of barrel work, grip stippling, and an extended mag release.

I could have cried. He could have at least lied to me to save my ego.

Well... you can always just claim "why settle for 'enough'?"

I do love my M&P9, but my 1911 is still the most fun to shoot.

Location, location, location as the realtors say. Shot placement is paramount, however when we sit and discuss good solid hollow point rounds of today's current technology, 9mm, 40 or 45 will all suffice, shoot what is comfortable. for you and what you shoot well. I have all three and do not feel undergunned with any of them. That aside the FMJ topic is another one entirely. ;)

Sean,

Yeah, I had a bit of a twinge as I finally shelved the $2k+ 1911 and started carrying a $400 plastic squirtgun.

I'd spent years saying "point to me the place on the Binky Doll where a .45 would kill a man and a 9mm won't," and it was time and past time to put my money where my mouth was.

I think the clincher for me was Tom Givens explaining why he'd gone from a 1911 to a G35: It takes two or three shots, generally, to down a bad guy. (And you may miss some, too.) That makes a 1911, at best, a two-guy gun. And a J-frame is, what? A one-and-a-half-guy gun?

We don't necessarily live in a two-guy world. So, if I can just as easily carry more bullets, why wouldn't I?

Yup. My current line of reasoning is "if 17 124gr +P jacketed hollowpoints out of the M&P can't handle it, I should have gotten my ass to a rifle a lot sooner."
