M&P22 Has Returned

S&W replaced the Firing Pin and Firing Pin Return Spring, and it got back to us yesterday.  The new spring is noticeably stronger feeling than the old one, so we'll see how that works out.

Overall though, you can't complain about getting your gun fixed for the price of driving to the FedEx office a couple times.  S&W warranty service is fantastic like that.

Can I ask you why you had those parts replaced?

Short answer - one or both broke.

Long answer - somewhere between the first range trip, and the second one, the firing pin return spring lost its sprung. The firing pin was failing to return to the rear, thus the hammer was failing to strike the pin. "Clack!" and no "Bang!"
(Unlike your M&P9, which is "striker fired"(no hammer, the firing pin(striker) is driven forward under spring pressure.) The M&P22 has a fully shrouded hammer hidden in the frame and fires single-action, so function is much closer to a 1911.)

I'm thinking that due to the low serial number on ours (MP003XXX), this may have been a fluke part and the issue has been address by S&W on current guns.
