Multicam...

...for everyone?  That's the word on the street for the Army.  Makes the most sense to me, there's already a good chunk of gear in the system and heraldry in place for the colors.

Seems like it could be a poor decision. We've already got MC for most/all soldiers in theater. It's a good stopgap measure. The Army has put a lot of time into selecting a new "family" of patterns with an intermediate pattern that will be used on gear and for garrison - probably something similar to MC. I really think it's a good idea to have something ready to go for a true desert environment, or a true woodland/jungle environment. Who knows, one of the patterns from the test might prove better than MC.

Another way to think of it is the story that's been coming out that the brass ended the selection process early and picked a pattern that looked cool - UCP.

Would picking Multicam right now and ending the selection process be similarly bad for the Army? I don't know that it would be to the same extent as the UCP fiasco, but it makes you wonder if they're doomed to repeat history.

There's a thought of making Multicam the "garrison uniform" and looking at a couple other patterns that are more terrain specific, much like back in the BDU/DCU days of my youth. I think it's a good idea.

I agree with it in theory, and Crye is actually still in the running as far as the current selection process goes.

I just don't think they should stop the process and say "we're going to go with MultiCam because it looks cool" and potentially ditch a really great family of patterns, possibly developed at great expense by a third party for the competition. That would be a repeat of how we got UCP.

Fair enough. I'm just glad I'll be getting Multicam at the end of the month, especially after some of the horror stories I've heard about the ACUs in Afghanistan.
