B.A.G. Day and Whatnot...

My purchase is being slowed a bit by waiting for funds to come in, and me to make a final decision and tell my dealer to order it (it's a current production piece that's not on backorder anywhere, just need to give him the green light.)

I do see that Jay G ordered himself up one of the runners-up in my mental race for his buy.  I'll be looking forward to hearing what he has to say about it, as I may still get one down the road if we ever get CCW for those days when I'm doing something where I can't carry a gun.  I've fondled them a bit over the counter at some shops and do like how they feel.  He's also got a nice round-up of some other's purchases.

I did pick up a cheapo crap coffee cup after waiting 5 hours for my coffee to cool down from magma to a mear scalding last night (when I seriously needed it...) So if you're in the market, the Nissan Thermos Backpacker is capable of keeping coffee drinkably warm for nearly 8 hours.  The new one was on sale at the local big box for under $4 and isn't worth mentioning.  It's getting its field test tonight.

Double Yuck.

It's snowing.

Yuck

It wasn't bad... until it started sleeting.

But we powered through it.

Fun was had despite the weather, and more photos will come in the next few days.

A Relevant Cause

G4 is putting together an effort to send "decent coffee" to the front lines after seeing the video that was making the rounds last week.
Everyone knows that soldiers are overseas to protect our country and our country runs on coffee (at least, according to Dunkin Donuts). Therefore, our soldiers need coffee to keep our homes safe and running!
But we can't have them suffer with bad coffee rations--and boiling up a cup of Joe in the middle of Afghanistan isn't an easy task, as you can see in the YouTube video below of Canadian soldiers demonstrating how they brew coffee in combat conditions. This makes your local Starbucks seem like the most luxurious place in the world, right?
That's why Attack of the Show is excited to launch Operation Instant Jolt where viewers like you can send in instant coffee, which we'll forward to the troops in Afghanistan. Your instant coffee donation can be sent here:
Operation Instant Jolt c/o G4TV
5850 W. 3rd St. #155
Los Angeles, CA 90036

We'll be accepting your instant coffee until May 1st, 2011 so get those packages in ASAP!
From my experience, even at the big places like BAF it can be difficult to find some actual quality coffee, and even worse so out in the field (no surprise there though.)

My suggestion for "instant" coffee does have to go out to the Starbucks VIA, it's easily the most convenient and trooper friendly in it's little single serving packets, and although I've been hard on Starbucks in the past, it's is easily the best tasting "instant" I've tried.

Ducks...

I'm sure they're happy...

But they're floating a good six inches above my single-track...

The snow melt was aided by a pretty good thunderstorm over the weekend.  It's come down, but that's two floods since I've ridden on that trail, and I don't know how much longer I can take.

Working on some photography stuff...

Speaking of Range Mishaps...

Stuff like this make me afraid to get into reloading.  Seems like a pretty easy mistake to make if you're even a little absent minded.

Squibs

They happen.  Listen to your gut out there.  If that last shot seemed off, stop and check.

I Agree

From Oleg.

Reverse Engineering

They've been around for a while, but today Caleb mentioned a metal frame for your Glock.  Glock is probably the most responsible for bringing plastics into the serious handgun game, freaking out the libbies all the way (ZOMG IT GOES THROUGH METAL DETECTORS!!!11)

I was going to say the only thing that they need is a steel frame for your Glock that mimics the 1911 grip angle, but then I noticed-
One of these backstraps duplicates the factory Glock grip angle. The other is flatter, resulting in the pistol pointing more naturally for the vast majority of users and mimicking the grip angle and feel of a 1911.
I have to agree with one of Caleb's points though, if you must have a metal framed pistol, just stick with a Sig or something.

At least it's for a good cause...

Shooters can now blast clay pigeons for a cause. Federal® Ammunition’s special edition Top Gun® Target loads support finding a cure for breast cancer. These distinctive pink hulls are an effective hunting and shooting practice option or a solid load for shooting competitions. A portion of the sales of this product will go directly to the search for a cure. The new 12-gauge 2-3/4-inch #8 shotshells deliver consistent performance for all types of clay target shooting.
I might have to keep an eye out for some, just for the hell of it.

Embarrassing...

Illinois is getting closer to CCW than we are...

Excuses...

I'm full of them.

If you're from the area, you know this weekend is pretty important, so I may or may not sleep (I have to work too... grr.)  I'll try to see if I can hash up some content between questions though.

But, how often do you get to play in The World's Largest Trivia Contest? (OK, once a year, but that's not the point...)

Graah...

48 hours on the schedule this week, 40 of which are overnights.  Sorry for the scarcity of my presence on the intertubes.

Hmm.

I voted around 4pm, close to my usual time.  My number was somewhere in the mid-400s, which is about twice as high as it usually is at the same time of day when I go.  You'd think there's been some big events going on lately with some high profile elections...

It's Officially Spring

The coffee shop has iced coffee again. Not that I drink it, but it's a good yardstick.

Speaking of Wisconsin

This could be very important to your survival if you happen to be visiting.

Elections

The big one for Wisconsin today is Supreme Court Justice, along with a mix of mayors.

Really the only thing I've got to say is that Justice David Prosser has a strong pro-2nd history, and going off of recent politics, everything the Republicans pass in the near future is going to be challenged in court, and that includes any CCW legislation that happens to come up.

Ruger LC9...

Anybody have any experience with them yet? And more importantly, know how hard it is to deactivate the stupid magazine safety?

Exercises in Frustration

The range trip today was one.

Contrary to popular opinion, my example of the Ruger 10/22 is far from a reliable gun.  Going through a single magazine without it stovepiping at least once is rare and cause for celebration.  It's a shame, as the gun is comfortable, handy, and fun to shoot (when it works.)  It only gets worse as the gun gets dirty, the last mag jammed on every-other round, the stovepiped case preventing the bolt from fully catching the fresh round, leading to a double feed when trying to clear it.  Great times.

On top of that was a constant 20-30mph wind.  I wasn't shooting far, or for any type of accuracy, just smacking some spinners around, but you couldn't leave anything lightweight on the bench.  About five minutes after laying down my empty rifle case went tumbling past me, and when I got up to grab it, the whole mat went over, dumping the rifle and box of ammo all over the ground.  Great times. I hate wind.  (Note to self: six little wire tent stakes need to make their way into the range bag...)

Hopefully I'll get back out in a couple days with a different gun and better weather.

Looking like it... Only upper 30s though.

Out of Town

For the weekend, expect light to no blogging until Monday.
