Credit

Caleb has a good post about using other people's stuff.  It's a good read (so go read it.)

I tend to think of my blog as being somewhat image driven (even if I've been slacking on that lately...) and I'm cool with others using my images.  As long as you link back to the post that the image is from, go for it.

Oh, speaking of images, here's picture of Simon Cat.  If only he'd stay that way...

Heh...

I'm not a big fan of people who go for the permanent solution, so I can't help but agree with Tam.  If you're gonna do it, go big.

Good Day's Work

The results of the morning of casting.
Pretty respectable pile of .44 and .38 bullets.

Bullet Molding Day

Off to Cro's to mold some bullets this morning.  MandaFern says I'm not allowed to taste the lead, not even for quality control reasons.

Tiny Tanks!

Ok, not technically tanks.

Spent a good chunk of today test painting some Strykers for GHQ Micro Armor.

Here's the Mortar Carrier from the bunch I did up.  Really simple, sand for the base (a 1" square of plasticard) primed it grey, dark brown followed by a drybrush of a bone white for the base; hit the truck with an OD green, washed it with a brown wash, picked out some details with black and light brown, and then a light drybrush of the bone color again to weather it.

It didn't take too long, and I got six of them done in a couple hours.  I'm quite pleased with the detail they crammed into the little things too.  They're 1:285 scale pewter...

I ended up painting the Command truck, the Mortar, a line APC, and the three MGSs that come in the Stryker Infantry Task Force Combat Command box (which are pretty good deals if you're looking to get into it.)

I haven't had a chance to play it yet, but it's supposed to be pretty realistic.  I'm probably going to shell out and get some actual tanks for the "Beer and Pretzels" quickplay rules they've got posted on their site.  I think it'll be an interesting change from 40k.

Contest Time!

Aaron has updated his gun contest page for the month. Go forth, win cool stuff, make me jealous.

Tuesday means wargames.

Old photoshop of one of my models from back in the day... turned out well.

Seriously...?

I guess since most police departments and the majority of military guys have all jumped on the carbine bandwagon, we can just go ahead and stop taking Shotguns seriously.

In my opinion, if you're using MW2/3 or whatever for your marketing inspiration, you're doing something wrong (that goes for you too, Eotech... you're making me embarassed to have your sight on my gun.)

Stupid Import Laws...

And SBR laws too while we're at it...

Civilian Semi-Auto CZ Scorpion for European Sales.  Not sure why, but I really like the looks of it, and wish I could get one.

Hand to Hand

How long do you need to be in the Army before you can say "I'm too old for this s___"? Gonna be one sore neck in the morning.

M&P22 Has Returned

S&W replaced the Firing Pin and Firing Pin Return Spring, and it got back to us yesterday.  The new spring is noticeably stronger feeling than the old one, so we'll see how that works out.

Overall though, you can't complain about getting your gun fixed for the price of driving to the FedEx office a couple times.  S&W warranty service is fantastic like that.

M&P9 Mid-Size

When the Balloon Goes Up is taking up the call for a mid-sized M&P, much like the Glock19.  I wholeheartedly agree, this is the sort of beast I've been dreaming about since at least last August.

The original photos have been re-arranged, but I contacted the OP of the thread in my link and got a peak for you guys-

The guy second from the bottom there.  The grip was cut down and trimmed to fit a compact length magazine, and a custom bolt and plug were made to fill in the heel of the grip and keep the palm-swell in place.

BGU's concept has a shorter barrel and a slightly longer grip.  I would rather have a little shorter grip, since that's the hardest part to conceal with carrying IWB, and I like the longer sight radius available with the "full-length" slide.  I'd feel pretty comfortable with the short mag in the gun, and one or two full size mags for reloads.

Recoil Magazine

Yesterday I picked up the premier issue of Recoil... a touch on the expensive side for a gun rag, but I figured I'd give the new publication a shot (heh,) besides, it's a larger format than your standard magazine, the photos looked really good, and I needed something to occupy me during the downtime in my shift last night.

Quick and dirty: If I took ARFCOM and turned it into a well produced print magazine, this would be it.  Airsofters will geek, and Costa/Haley leg-humpers will probably be locked away for weeks after picking it up (they're not in it, but it's got that feel.)

More in depth... the articles vary as much as the requisite insanely expensive gun reviews (Nighthawk Predator and HK556A1,) a crazy expensive custom "bug-out vehicle," and an interview with JJ Racaza.  There's a full DIY article on polymer stippling, with step-by-step photos of the author going to town on an M&P pistol, and another showing how to thread the hole in your AR lower for the rear takedown pin retaining spring so you don't launch the thing across the room when you take the rear plate off (something I probably will do on future builds.)  Also very few ads, and none of that "cont. on pg. 87" crap you find in other magazines.

There are, on the other hand, advertisements involving scantily clad women, and (at least in the first issue) a lack of articles about techniques or tactics.  It really seems like more of a "gear-whore" centric magazine.  On that note, however, there is a great breakdown of all the gear featured on the cover of the issue right in the first few pages.  I think the only things they forgot where what socks and underwear the model was wearing (seriously... that's about the only thing they didn't mention.)  The "full-size custom" pull-out target is a bit of a let-down though, it's kind of small and looks quite gimmicky.

They don't have print subscriptions set up yet, so I'm not sure what the savings will be for that route (and I hope it's worth it, otherwise they'll need to drop the cover price down from the current $8.99 to keep me interested long-term) but it's probably worth looking at if your into that kind of stuff, and there is a lot of content crammed into one issue.

Freedom Group Buys Para USA

There was a rumor going around a couple weeks ago regarding this, and it's been confirmed.  Looks like the Freedom Group wants to fill their handgun void.

Sunday Comedy

"Thin Wall Challenge" is quickly becoming one of my favorite series of YouTube videos. Plus he's just awkward enough to make it doubly hilarious.
(Warning... some swearing, and the entire premise revolves around his neighbors doing it.)
