Beer and Baseball
Who wouldn't want beer delivered down a river on a little raft? This is easily the most awesomely cheesy gimmick I've run into at a ballpark. In such a good way.

New Remington 380
The RM380
MSRP is identical to the new version of the LCP (with the drift adjustable sights.) Remington is going with an aluminum frame rather than poly.
I think it could be a viable option for those looking for a micro .380, I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one myself.
Look for an official announcement at the NRA convention.

Why I Don't Care About the G43
So Glock finally released what people have wanted for the last decade, a single-stack 9mm, the G43.
In my opinion, I think they have done too little, too late, again.
Much like the G42, the overall size of the gun compared to the capacity is not comparable to other guns in the category (single-stack 9x19 subcompact.) The M&P Shield is .95" in width, compared to the G43's 1.06". The Shield is a touch taller (around a quarter inch) but holds one more round (7+1 in the short mag, G43 is 6+1 in both mags.) About the only major advantage the Glock gets is in weight, unloaded it's a tad over 1oz. lighter.
Then we'll look at the single-stack 9 I almost got (more on that in a bit), the Ruger LC9s Pro. The little Ruger comes in at skinny .90", enough to actually be a noticeable difference. It's also nearly 3/4 of an ounce lighter, and still holds 7+1 rounds. Again, a quarter of an inch taller, but that's a minimal trade off for that extra round.
Both the Shield and the LC9s are cheaper to boot.
I'm sure that like the G42, they'll fly off the shelves, but that's just because it has "Glock" on the side. However, I think they should have done a single-stack the size of a G19. Then they'd only be competing with themselves, and it's probably more of what all the fanboys wanted anyway. Hell, I'd probably get one, do a slight stagger to the mag like the Shield and you'd get 10 rounds in there.
Earlier I had mentioned that I "almost got" a Ruger LC9s (I actually was looking at the regular "s" and not the "Pro," since I like thumb safeties. I just used the Pro for the comparison since the G43 doesn't have external safeties either.) I got caught up with the idea this last year, since I like the size and concealability of my J-Frame, but I'm not in love with 5 rounds and a slow and tricky reload. Mag fed autos are just tons easier to feed. I shot my buddy's Shield, and found that my thumb rides the slide release. Darn. I fondled the LC9s, and the safety was the perfect place for my 1911-brained thumb to go.
Then I went home and thought about it.
Does a whole 2 rounds really make it worth the expense of a new gun, holsters, and mags? I know I just ragged on the new Glock for having one less than the others, but that's and apples-to-apples thing (but really Glock, why handicap yourself?) The more I thought of it, the more I couldn't help but wonder if that magical quarter of an inch difference between the M&P9c and the Shield doesn't seem like much for almost double the capacity. Plus the butt of the Compact is actually shorter than the Shield's, and that is probably the bigger concealment issue. (For what it's worth, I haven't gotten any new gun yet anyway...)
So, having no practical experience with actually concealing these little single-stack guns, does that quarter of an inch really make it easier to conceal? I think I can save that much just by switching from leather to kydex if it really made that big of a difference. Anybody out there have thoughts on that?

Little Tree
Giving this a shot to help with winter suck. The local greenhouse had some on sale, so I snagged a juniper, since they are supposedly able to take a bit of abuse.
Re-potted it and trimmed it up a bit yesterday, still need to get a pair of concave cutters (or whatever they're called) to nip off one of the bigger branches.

Brr...
A few of us hit up the range yesterday, which was fine for the first couple hours, but then my toes got cold. It was around 9°, not counting windchill...
The "Cold-weather Carbine" rode in the bed of the truck on the way there, just to keep it nice and chilly. The only issue encountered was with the first Lancer translucent mag. I've got a couple of their first generation ones, so bearing that in mind, with only 20 rounds in the 30 round mag, I racked the charging handle, the mag didn't fall out, but it didn't chamber a round. It had failed to seat on a closed bolt. I guess they're still more of a novelty to me than as a combat ready magazine, until I get my hands on some of the newest ones.
My other Lancer mag worked fine, however I didn't try seating it on a closed bolt. My PMags worked fine.
And I think I can finally feel my toes again.

Here's a horrible idea...
Seriously. You're going to get somebody shot.
Apparently the Ferguson PD is testing this thing? What the hell is wrong with a Taser? At least you don't have to draw your real gun, and point said gun at people. Or just get freakin' bean bag rounds for the shotguns... that thing is just going to make things worse.
What could go wrong? After traveling through the barrel, the bullet embeds itself inside the alloy projectile, and the docking unit immediately detaches from the weapon, according to the manufacturer. This process decreases the bullet's velocity and dampens its impact. The bullet, then, should not pierce a human’s skin and cause the type of internal damage that would kill the person. However, it retains enough blunt force to knock someone over and deliver severe, debilitating pain.

Frosty
Did some function testing and zeroed the "frosty truck gun" build.
I actually wish it had been colder (it was 22°F...) but I'll take what I can get. At least my fingers didn't go numb reloading mags.

Neat-o product for the day-
Polymer K31 chargers. I need to restock some of my 7.5Swiss supply and take that one out more.

Radom MSBS Coming Soon
This is shaping up to be a good year for AR alternatives.
The possibility of a bullpup conversion using 80% of the parts is also pretty cool to me.

Sig MCX
I will admit, it kind of makes my pants tight.
RECOIL has a nice breakdown of it with plenty of pictures of the insides.
Folding stock, easily swapped barrels (5.56 to .300BLK and back again sounds fun,) and replaceable wear point on the upper. I'm hoping the removable forward assist assembly also means there'll be an option to just slap a plate on there and get rid of it.

Cold Weather Gun?
I've been contemplating what kind of rifle I could leave in the truck this time of year. Today is insanely mild (if it gets any warmer, stuff might actually melt!) but just a week ago I was doing a felony stop in -30ºF windchill. With that in mind, I've tossed together some parts I had around the house, and ordered a new stock to throw on it.
BCM middy upper I won in a raffle a few years ago, fixed rear sight off the M&P15-22, and some Magpul grips, and their Fixed Carbine Stock, which has the same length of pull as what I set collapsible ones anyway. No electronics to die in the deep-freeze.
The plan is to keep an eye on the weather, and swing over to the range one of these days when it's freakin' cold out again, with the gun in the back so it stays nice and cold. I'm just debating what lube to use (the last time I was shooting ARs in -20º or lower temps, it was noticeably sluggish with CLP.)

Blarg
Been working steady overnight shifts of immense boredom. This tends to destroy most of my creative abilities... if'n you've been wondering about the lack of posts as of late.
The truck goes into the shop after I get done with this shift though, and it's my Saturday (for lack of a better term,) so maybe I'll get something more substantial up.

"Factory" Drop-in 10/22 Trigger
Ruger BX-Trigger
2.5-3 lb pull, about $90. My only problem from what I can see is it still has the 'serrated' trigger face that's on the stock unit.
Still, it's pretty cool to see Ruger embracing this kind of after marker stuff as of late.

American Sniper
Clint Eastwood is a pretty fine actor, but he seems to just flat out kill it as a director. I'm looking forward to it.
