Sig also revealed their 7.62x51mm AR10 type rifle during SHOT.
I think it looks good, and has a lot of features I'd go with right out of the box. Maybe I'll be able to get one in a few years....
On a more serious note, they're making them in a 12.5" SBR, 14.5" carbine, 16" patrol carbine, and 20" marksman package (pictured above.)

It's Monday.
The ATF says so. Actually I'm sure they were just recovering from too much A at their post-SHOT party. They finally got their shotgun thing out that they referred to last week.
Just skimming over the begining, it looks like they tried to more narrowly define "sporting purposes," and decided that the only legitimate ones are the ones that have been around for 100 years and only use pretty shotguns that don't hurt feelings. Oh, and "plinking" isn't a sporting purpose either, since you can do that with any gun. So any "action shooting" like IPSC or three gun stuff is not a sporting purpose.
That's all sorts of crap...
Anyway, Uncle's got a better breakdown going, I'm picking up a few extra hours at work tonight, so I'm probably not going to be able to get through it.

Actually, Congratulations to Steve. A good deal came at a perfect time to get him set up in a great way. The Firearm Blog is one of the small handful of gun blogs that pushed me over the edge and into the abyss that is the gunblogospher, and it still remains one of my largest influences.
The "Guns, not Politics" policy is refreshing, and Steve promises that it will not change. The sale only means he'll have more time to blog, and spend less time on the maintenance required to host your own site or however that works (there's a reason I use Blogger... I'm not too much of a computer person.)
Again, congrats to Steve, and best of luck in his future endeavors.

Who Can Carry
It looks like South Dakota is starting to revise things after the recent lawsuit. Between this and Wyoming's progress yesterday, it's good to see more of this going around.
Really, I find it difficult to really understand any viewpoint other than Constitutional Carry. I mean if you can legally buy the thing, why do you need to jump through a bunch more hoops to carry it? And why should it matter how you carry it? But I'm preaching to the choir...

Good for them!
Wyoming Senate passes Constitutional Carry. I hope it continues all the way to the top and provides an example of why my home state should be doing.
Neat. SD "Home Defense Package"
A former co-worker and friend has been picking my brain for a "home defense" and plinking gun, preferably in 9mm, and in looking for options I came across the Smith & Wesson SD9 and SD40 "Home Defense Package" MSRP'd at $499.
I've gotta say, that actually looks like a pretty sweet deal for a starter home defense package, for $40 more than the gun alone, you get a white light and a gun vault. The gun also has a Tritium front sight, and simple white dots on the rear, which is great for a defensive gun.

AKs Morally Outdated?
What does that even mean? The story broke on Military Firearm a couple weeks ago, and we laughed. I guess the story is gaining some legs, and I've seen it referred to on a couple blogs this morning. I think my first response really sums up my feelings towards it pretty well though.
It appears that the Minister considers them to be evil rifles, because they are used by evil men.
Now, I'm not arguing that the AK and SVD platforms aren't outdated. For once Ret. Gen. Scales may be on to something with his regurgitated gun-forum complaints about the system (seriously, this isn't the first time I've seen his name attached to some WTF military "analysis" on their site...)-

"The AK-47 is outdated because of it’s not an accurate weapon,”However I don't see the Russian military just ditching the guns, let alone buying foreign made weapons, simply because bad guys use them.
Rhino stuff
Gun Nuts Media is hoping to get some in for testing and evaluation. I'm looking forward to hearing what Caleb has to say, since he is a revolver guy. I'm not, but I have a soft spot for "different" guns (my only cartridge revolver at the moment is a Nagant...) and I do like the looks of the Rhino, especially the short one.

Got a late start to the day, so really not any time to accomplish much before work. At least I'll spend it doing something relaxing.

Overall length is just 5.25", and it's only 13.5oz. I think it would be great on an SBR to, you know, maintain the SBRness.

More on Hyperstealth

TJIC Meme
You may have noticed the new graphic over on the left column. In case you missed the post the other day, the story is that TJIC, a gun blogger and Massachusetts business owner, posted something on his blog right after the shooting in Tuscon the other weekend. It may not have been in the best taste, and his views may or may not reflect that of my own, but what happened next is simply disgusting.
Apparently in Arlington, MA, your constitutional rights are exclusive and singular. You're not allowed to collect the whole set. In exchange for exercising his 1st Amendment Right, TJIC was forced to give up his 2nd.
This has also lead to a boycott of his online comic book store, Heavy Ink.
Borepatch and TotC have countered with a Buycott. I'll have to see what graphic novels I'm in need of and pick up a few.

ATF Will Issue a New Ruling on Monday Regarding Shotgun Imports
As Uncle says, does that mean we should stock up on Saigas? That would suck, I've been close to buying one a few times, and I'd hate to have put it off too long. I may have to check the finances and hope they prices don't do something stupid by the show next weekend... (I'm sure if they do make them non-importable they'll be well out of my price range by then anyway though. Guns are like stocks... just a lot noisier and loads more fun.)
Since that first bomb, there's been a little glimmer of light in regards to what it's going to be:

Caleb's got his money on the new 28ga version of the Taurus Judge and the Rossi Trail Judge, since they "have no sporting purpose" and twist the wording of the AOW and SBS rules (I can see that being the reasoning too... "How dare you defy me!!")
I hope it doesn't stop the import of Saiga 12s though. Otherwise I'll be kicking myself in the ass for not buying those two at a show a year ago and selling one a month from now. Still not buying a Judge though. They're made of stupid.

They have to be converted "in country" and 922R compliance must be met. All "high" capacity magazines are produced state-side, and not imported with the gun (they come with a 5 round box.)
